Apple TV+ has officially renewed the popular comedy series Platonic for a third season, featuring the dynamic duo of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. This decision, announced on December 5, 2023, comes just two months after the season two finale aired. The renewal follows a successful run for season two, which launched with a remarkable 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an improvement from the first season’s 93% rating.
Co-creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco expressed their enthusiasm for returning to the series, stating, “We couldn’t be more excited to get back into the world of Platonic with our amazing partners, Rose and Seth and Sony and Apple.” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, praised the show, noting that it highlights the unique comedic chemistry between Rogen and Byrne. He remarked, “Nick and Francesca accomplished the rare feat of taking the show to the next level in season two, and, along with our partners at Sony, we can’t wait to see what they cook up for season three.”
About the Series
“Platonic is proof there is no duo better at making us belly laugh at midlife crises than Seth and Rose.”
The storyline of Platonic focuses on a platonic pair of former best friends navigating their lives as they approach midlife. Rogen and Byrne portray characters who reconnect after a long separation, leading to a friendship that becomes all-consuming and, at times, chaotic. Season two continues to explore their journey as they tackle new challenges, including work, weddings, and partner crises, while attempting to support one another through the complexities of life.
The show also features a talented supporting cast, including Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo. Season two welcomed guest appearances from notable actors such as Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim.
As viewers anticipate the new season, they can also look forward to updates regarding other Apple TV+ programming. The streaming platform has been active in renewing and canceling various shows this year, indicating a strategic approach to its content offerings.
