Andrew Jackson Joiner VI, affectionately known as “Big Dog,” passed away on February 2, 2026, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Born on August 23, 1949, in Ada, Oklahoma, he leaves behind a rich legacy defined by faith, hard work, and a commitment to family and community. Joiner was a well-respected figure, whose contributions to both the oil and gas industry and his local community were significant.
Raised in Ellinwood, Kansas, Joiner demonstrated an early aptitude for leadership and sports during his time at Ellinwood High School. He was a standout athlete, competing in football, basketball, track and field, golf, and baseball. His leadership skills shone through as he served on the student council, culminating in a role as President during his senior year. After graduation, he continued his education at Oklahoma State University Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
Joiner dedicated a considerable portion of his professional life to the oil and gas industry, notably spending 34 years with Crawley Petroleum. His colleagues recognized him for his integrity, deep industry knowledge, and relentless work ethic. Even after retiring, he remained active as a part-time consultant, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in the field.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joiner was deeply involved in his community. He served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church and held a position on the School Board in Fairview, Oklahoma. Together with his close friend, David Blundell, he co-founded the Major Co. Oil and Gas Association, an organization dedicated to providing scholarships to high school seniors in Major County. This initiative has changed the lives of many young people, demonstrating Joiner’s commitment to investing in future generations.
Joiner’s adventurous spirit was evident in his love for travel and exploration. He enjoyed riding his trike across the country, taking in the natural beauty of the landscapes. Many cherished moments were spent camping and traveling in his RV, where evenings were filled with board games and fellowship with friends.
Family was central to Joiner’s life. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, often traveling great distances to support his children and grandchildren in their various pursuits. His pride in his family was evident to all who knew him, as he found immense joy in cheering them on from the sidelines.
Joiner is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Joiner; his children and their spouses, including Scott (Johnnie) Mead of Graham, Texas; Steffanie (Steve) Hendricks of Mannford, Oklahoma; Jack (Cynthia) Joiner VII of Moore, Oklahoma; Ty (Shelly) Joiner of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Casey (Vanessa) Joiner of Elk City, Oklahoma; and Kelly Joiner of Weatherford, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law Tamra Stephens of Enid, Oklahoma; his brother Don (Rosie) Joiner of Ellinwood, Kansas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.
Joiner was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Andrew Jackson Joiner V; his sister, Chris Gresham; his brothers, Kevin and Mike Joiner; and his son, Bradley Stephens. A celebration of life service will be held at a future date in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and the interment of his ashes will take place at Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas.
