DC is hosting a free marathon of its animated series, Creature Commandos, on YouTube to mark the show’s first anniversary. The event will showcase all seven episodes, providing fans an opportunity to revisit the series that launched DC’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Scheduled for December 22 from 13:00 to 19:00 and December 23 from 15:00 to 21:00, the marathon will air live on DC’s official YouTube channel.
Released on December 5, 2024, Creature Commandos was the first entry in DC’s ambitious reboot of its extended universe. The animated show introduces a team of monsters operating under the U.S. government’s Task Force M, led by the formidable Amanda Waller. This diverse team includes characters such as The Bride, G.I. Robot, Weasel, Doctor Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky, and Rick Flag Sr.
The series enjoyed critical acclaim upon its debut, earning a remarkable 95% critics’ score and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. As of now, a second season has been confirmed, although a release date has yet to be announced.
Progress of DC’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took the helm of DC Studios, they outlined a vision to connect the DC Universe through films, television, and gaming, introducing Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Initially announced in 2023, this chapter included ten projects. Since then, some projects have faced delays while new titles have emerged.
To date, only Creature Commandos and the recently released Superman have debuted. The next anticipated title is Supergirl, set to premiere next year, followed by a film centered on the Batman villain Clayface. Meanwhile, the series Waller is still in development, and Lanterns is scheduled for release in 2026. Notably, the much-anticipated project The Brave and The Bold, which introduces Batman into the new DC Universe, has been postponed, shifting focus instead to The Batman: Part 2, directed by Matt Reeves.
Following the success of Superman, two additional Superman-related projects have been announced. One, titled Man of Tomorrow, involves a collaboration between Lex Luthor and Superman and is currently in the storyboarding phase, with filming slated to begin next year. Additionally, a television spin-off featuring Jimmy Olsen is in the works, although it lacks a specific release date.
Fans eager to revisit Creature Commandos can catch the marathon on YouTube from December 22 to 23. Until then, the series is available for streaming on HBO Max. This anniversary celebration offers a perfect chance for viewers to reconnect with the series that initiated a new chapter in the DC Universe under the guidance of Gunn and Safran.
