Game Science, the developer behind the acclaimed action RPG Black Myth: Wukong, has released an engaging six-minute teaser video to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Horse. This video not only offers a glimpse into culinary delights but also serves as a sneak peek into their next title, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Following the anticipated release of Black Myth: Wukong in 2024, this new installment will expand the series, which has already garnered multiple awards, though it notably did not win the coveted Game of the Year at The Game Awards.
In contrast to its predecessor, which features the legendary Monkey King, Black Myth: Zhong Kui centers around a prominent figure in Chinese folklore—the Taoist deity and exorcist, Zhong Kui, also known as the Ghost King. As players step into the shoes of this character, they can expect a host of ghostly and demonic adversaries, though the teaser does not delve into these elements. Instead, the video presents a whimsical cooking scenario where a woman prepares a fish soup, accompanied by bizarre interactions with various supernatural beings.
The cooking showcase begins with a woman chopping vegetables alongside a seemingly possessed fish. Shortly after, a man interacts with a large seashell, asking a friendly-looking demon for a piece of meat. The scene escalates as the woman collects chives from a sleeping demon-baby plant and engages in a rather unsettling act of grinding mini-demons. The lighthearted yet eerie atmosphere culminates as she serves her creation to a masked figure, potentially representing Zhong Kui, under the vigilant gaze of a guardian.
Game Science has clarified that this video is “non-canon and for entertainment purposes only,” indicating that the focus is on showcasing the game’s graphics, atmosphere, and setting rather than revealing narrative details. Although the figure at the end may not definitively be Zhong Kui, a previous reveal trailer from August 2025 introduced the character as a large, dark-skinned man riding a tiger.
While players eagerly await Black Myth: Wukong‘s release, the anticipation for its successor continues to grow. No official release date has been announced for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, leaving fans to speculate on what exciting developments lie ahead in this richly woven tapestry of Chinese mythology.
