Jessica Lacy, the head of indie film sales and packaging at Range Media Partners, is expected to leave the company in early 2024, according to multiple sources. Lacy, who joined the firm in 2022 as a partner to lead the specialty division Range Select, will remain with her team through the 2026 Sundance Film Festival market as she considers her next steps.
Insiders suggest that the decision for Lacy to depart was mutual. Range Media Partners has not publicly commented on the situation, and it remains unclear when the company will initiate the search for her successor.
Lacy’s career spans over two decades, having previously worked at ICM Partners, where she collaborated with prominent filmmakers on projects that have been showcased at major festivals, including Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, Berlin, and SXSW. Notable deals she orchestrated include the remarkable $25 million sale of “CODA,” which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2022, as well as other acclaimed titles such as “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” “One Night in Miami,” and “Worth,” starring Michael Keaton.
Background on Range Media Partners
Founded in 2020, Range Media Partners emerged as a management firm by a group of leading agents who transitioned from their roles following the WGA-mandated halt on television packaging fees. The firm was established by Pete Micelli alongside former CAA agent Dave Bugliari and Jack Whigham, all of whom hold ownership stakes in the venture.
In addition to its management services, Range Media Partners is developing a film production arm that is currently working on several exciting projects. These include a biopic of legendary musician and Velvet Underground co-founder Lou Reed, based on the 2023 biography “Lou Reed: The King of New York” by Will Hermes. Other projects in development feature a focus on the iconic screen partnership of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, as well as “Soul Train,” a film adaptation of an upcoming stage musical about renowned producer Don Cornelius.
The departure of Lacy marks a significant transition for Range Media Partners as the firm continues to establish its footprint in the competitive landscape of independent film production and distribution.
