Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California, characterized the shooting as a “horrific killing” and urged for accountability.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Rep. Ayanna Pressley introduced a motion to subpoena the Department of Homeland Security for all relevant documents and footage related to the shooting, though the motion ultimately failed after a tie vote.
Allegations of Systematic Fraud Highlighted

This political backdrop is further complicated by the fact that Tim Walz was chosen as the running mate for then-Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 presidential campaign, raising concerns that revealing fraud could adversely impact the Democratic ticket.
Racism and Partisan Tensions Dominate Discussions

Robbins dismissed claims of racism as “fake allegations,” arguing that fraud should be addressed regardless of the perpetrator’s background. Democratic Rep. Dave Min described the hearing as inherently partisan and racially charged, suggesting that similar investigations into fraud in predominantly Republican states have not received comparable scrutiny. “It’s hard for me not to look at this hearing and the context in which it’s taking place and not see this as a partisan and racist hearing,” he stated.
During the hearing, Rep. Kweisi Mfume of Maryland condemned the questioning directed at the Somali community as xenophobic. “Asking their opinion, ‘What is your opinion of Somalians?’ We might as well say, ‘What is your opinion of Jews? What is your opinion of Black people?’” he remarked.
The hearing concluded amid a swirl of accusations and counter-accusations, with lawmakers from both sides seemingly more focused on political points than on the underlying issues of fraud and accountability.
