A new romance bookstore, Finney’s Books, is set to open in East Austin on December 13, 2023, at 3823 Airport Blvd., #D. As romance novels continue to gain popularity, with sales projected to double by 2025 according to consumer research firm Circana, this bookstore aims to create a haven for enthusiasts of the genre.
Finney’s Books is designed to be a welcoming space for readers of all identities, offering a diverse selection of romance literature. The store will feature everything from “sweet contemporary romances with a hint of spice” to more adventurous adult stories that embrace the genre’s dramatic and steamy aspects. Rather than shying away from common tropes, Finney’s encourages readers to embrace them, providing a relaxed atmosphere for selecting their next read.
The bookstore is named after owner Cameron Lagrone‘s beloved dog, who has a penchant for audiobooks. Lagrone expressed her journey in discovering the joy of romance novels, stating, “What I once thought of as outdated regressive stories have instead been a place where I’ve found stories that celebrate love and pleasure in all their forms.” This personal connection underscores her commitment to showcasing an ever-expanding array of queer love stories, reinforcing the message that “love is love.”
The grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00. Attendees can enjoy coffee from Please Stay Coffee and baked goods from The AniCakes Co., along with other refreshments. The first 25 visitors will receive complimentary branded tote bags, while those who purchase a book will be entered into a giveaway featuring signed books and “bookish merch bundles.” Additionally, all guests will receive bookmarks while supplies last.
Located at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and 38th 1/2, Finney’s Books offers both onsite parking and street parking along 38th 1/2 and Anchor Lane. The store’s opening comes at a time when romance literature is thriving, appealing to a broad audience seeking narratives that celebrate connection and intimacy amidst the challenges of modern life.
As Finney’s Books prepares to welcome customers, it stands as a testament to the enduring popularity of romance fiction and the importance of fostering community spaces for readers to explore their passions.
