Olivia Culpo has launched a limited-edition capsule collection with Abercrombie & Fitch, drawing inspiration from the nostalgia surrounding football. The collection, which will be available online starting December 11, 2023, aims to redefine what is known as “fan style.”
Culpo, 33, emphasized the emotional connection many have with football, stating, “I feel like there’s so much history in football: the game, the colors, the memories that it brings up for people. So, I wanted this collection to feel timeless and nostalgic.” This collaboration follows her appearance in Abercrombie’s “In Her Own League” campaign, which highlighted women in sports.
The capsule features three distinct pieces: an oversized leather jacket adorned with San Francisco 49ers embroidery, a gray crewneck sweatshirt, and a black tank top, all proudly displaying the team’s logo. “I love the neckline,” Culpo shared regarding the crewneck. “There’s just three pieces, so there’s not a ton, but I hope that people will love it as much as I do.”
As a new mother, Culpo explained how her personal experience has influenced her design approach. “When you’re a mom, you really do have to find ways to streamline your life. You don’t have enough time to go through piles and piles of clothes, and you don’t want to — you want to spend time with your baby,” she said. Her focus on practicality is evident as she aims to create versatile pieces that simplify getting dressed.
“I wanted to create pieces that people will keep coming back for and that will be able to be layered in interesting ways and worn in multiple different ways,” she added. This functionality caters to both casual outings and game days, aligning with her lifestyle as a busy mother.
Culpo also shared a light-hearted moment regarding her husband, Christian McCaffrey, a running back for the San Francisco 49ers. “I don’t even have to go into his wardrobe. I know every single piece that he has,” she quipped. “I cleaned out his closet for him. I tell him what he needs to get. I tell him what to wear. He is the perfect client. He just says yes to everything.”
Reflecting on her journey into motherhood, Culpo described the experience as a whirlwind but fulfilling. “Having a daughter just feels like such a whirlwind, but in the best way,” she expressed. “I’m just really enjoying being a new mom, and things are settling. They’re getting easier with every day out of the newborn phase. … And it’s perfect timing because we’re in the holidays.”
Culpo acknowledged the challenges many face during this phase of life but emphasized the importance of finding beauty in the experience. “It can be traumatizing for a lot of people, and I completely understand that, but just finding the beauty in that, and that’s what it is. This is a time in your life. It’s not forever,” she explained, expressing her excitement to look back on this special period in the future.
With the launch of her capsule collection, Culpo not only showcases her design talents but also shares her personal journey as a mother, creating a relatable connection with her audience.
