A dog in Alberta, Canada, is capturing the attention of social media users with his distinctive underbite, which has transformed from what his owners initially described as “slight” into a charmingly goofy grin. Arvo, a three-year-old Australian shepherd mix, was rescued as a puppy, and his unique feature has become a hallmark of his personality and online presence.
Arvo was found under a porch, where he was one of five siblings, four of whom sadly did not survive. His owner, Erika, expressed her compassion for him, stating, “We just felt so terrible for him and wanted to give him a home.” Upon adopting Arvo, the family was informed that he had a minor underbite. “The lady we got him from told us after his first checkup that he had a slight underbite,” Erika explained in an interview with Newsweek.
As Arvo matured, however, it became evident that his underbite was more pronounced than initially believed. “Around four months, his bottom lip started really peeking out, and we could no longer deny that it maybe wasn’t so slight after all,” Erika recalled. Interestingly, Arvo’s suspected father also had a mild underbite, a trait that Erika found endearing. “I remember saying, ‘Oh I hope you look just like your dad.’ And here we are,” she added.
Despite the dramatic appearance of his underbite, Arvo has not faced any limitations. In fact, it has become his trademark feature. His playful antics have attracted a significant following on TikTok, where his owners have shared videos showcasing his charming personality. One particular video has garnered over 1.8 million views.
People often stop Erika and Arvo on the street to comment on his smile and encourage them to create a dedicated social media page for him. “We’ve had a few people stop us on the street to comment on his smile and tell us we should start a page for him,” she said. Comments on TikTok reflect the joy that Arvo brings to his followers, with one fan stating, “Never seen this page or dog but you got a new follower now just because of those teefs.” Another commenter humorously noted, “The vet’s right…I don’t notice anything.”
Erika expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming affection directed towards Arvo. “I have been blown away by the love for our guy,” she remarked. “People have been so kind, and it is so much fun seeing all the other dogs with goofy toofs out there.”
