Walter F. Currie, a respected engineer and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer. He was 91 years old. Born on February 11, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Floyd and Stella Currie, Walt’s life was marked by a deep commitment to family, education, and his professional endeavors.

Walt’s journey began in high school, where he met Catherine Louise Shelburn in 1950. Their shared interests blossomed into a lifelong partnership that began at Atherton High School and continued at the University of Kentucky. Walt pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1956. During his time at the university, he was actively involved in the Air Force ROTC, joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and established a lasting connection to the university that he maintained throughout his life.

In 1961, he founded Currie Aerospace Associates, a company dedicated to representing national electronics manufacturers. Starting from a small office in the spare bedroom of their rented home in Lake Conway Estates, Walt and Catherine built the business together. Over the years, the company evolved, eventually being renamed Currie, Peak, and Frazier, Inc. and expanding to employ 36 individuals. Walt was not only a skilled sales engineer but also a mentor to many in the industry.

Walt’s enduring passion for education extended beyond his professional life. He was a staunch advocate for his family’s educational pursuits, believing in the importance of understanding how things work. His dedication to knowledge and learning resonated with his loved ones, who will remember him for his willingness to share his expertise.

A cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Walt took immense pride in his family. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Currie; two sons, Scott Currie and Beau Currie; and five grandchildren, including Trevor and Lucas Currie, Charles and Nathan Currie, and Amanda Summers. His family recalls his unwavering support and guidance, which shaped their lives.

A private memorial service will be held at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, where Walt’s cremated remains will be interred alongside his parents in a section originally arranged by Colonel George E. Currie in 1894. This final resting place will serve as a testament to his Kentucky roots and familial devotion.

Walter F. Currie will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the love he instilled in his family and the community he served. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to learning.
