CNY Diaper Bank Seeks Community Support This Holiday Season

The CNY Diaper Bank is reaching out to the community this holiday season, urging individuals, local organizations, and businesses to contribute to their mission of supporting families in need. The aim is to provide essential diapers to those facing economic challenges in the Liverpool, New York area.

Residents interested in making a difference can securely donate online at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. To enhance the impact of contributions, donations made until January 1, 2026, will be matched, up to $5,000, thanks to a grant from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. This initiative means that every dollar can provide a day’s worth of diapers for a local baby.

The Challenge of Diaper Need

According to Michela Hugo, Founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, nearly half of families with young children experience diaper need. “When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change,” she stated. The combination of low wages and rising living costs forces parents into difficult choices regarding their children’s needs.

The CNY Diaper Bank seeks to alleviate this burden while advocating for systemic changes to ensure no parent has to choose between essential items like diapers and food. Despite their necessity, diapers are not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Women, Infants, and Children benefits. The monthly cost of adequate diapers for a single child can reach approximately $100, making it an unaffordable expense for many families.

Impact and Reach

With a mission to ensure that all Central New York families have access to an adequate supply of diapers, the CNY Diaper Bank has established itself as the largest diaper bank in New York state. They collaborate with a network of partner agencies to distribute an average of 200,000 diapers each month, assisting around 4,000 local babies and toddlers.

Since its establishment in May 2016, the organization has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need. “Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” Hugo emphasized.

The CNY Diaper Bank, a nonprofit member of the National Diaper Bank Network, was founded to support social service organizations in the Syracuse area. Through raising awareness and providing essential supplies, the organization aims to address the challenges faced by families struggling to meet their children’s basic needs.
