Community Programs Provide Health and Support Services This January

Various community initiatives are taking place across the region this January, providing vital support and resources for local residents. These programs focus on health, wellness, and assistance for those in need.

Free Clothing and Health Programs Available

God’s Helping Hands is providing free clothing and shoes to those in need at Grace Bible Church. The service operates on the first Saturday of each month, with the next distribution scheduled for January 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located at 12 Molino Road, near routes 61 and 895 East. Donations of gently used clothing and shoes are accepted. For further information, interested individuals can contact Sandy Kupres at 570-386-5893 or visit the church’s website at www.gbcm.org.

Meanwhile, a health-focused program titled Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions will run on Thursdays from January 15 through February 19, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 300 W. Arch St. The workshop is designed for individuals aged 60 and older who are dealing with ongoing health conditions, such as fatigue, pain, or anxiety. Participants will learn practical skills to manage their health and connect with others facing similar challenges. The program includes healthful snacks and a guidebook. Those wishing to attend should register by January 13 by calling 570-624-3017.

Community Engagement and Support Services

The Pottsville Lions Club invites members of the community to its meetings held at 6 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at the Pottsville Zone, located at 337 Peacock St. For additional details, contact Jerry Enders at 570-622-9510.

In a separate initiative, the free Diaper Ministry at Zion Lutheran Church is accepting new clients for its diaper distribution scheduled for January 18, 2026. This program aims to assist families within the Tamaqua Area School District by providing diapers for children from newborn to age 4, available in sizes NB to 3T-4T. Requests can be made through the church’s website at https://www.ziontamaqua.com/diaper-depot. Clients will receive diapers by appointment, which will be assigned once requests are processed. The deadline for submitting requests is January 11.

These community programs exemplify the ongoing efforts to support residents through accessible resources, ensuring that those in need receive essential services and assistance.
