Local Donations Surge for Salvation Army’s Give-A-Christmas Campaign

The annual Give-A-Christmas campaign has officially begun, with donors already contributing a total of $1,760 towards a goal of $10,000 in support of the Salvation Army. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the campaign, initiated by the Herald-Standard, which aims to provide additional assistance to those in need within Fayette County.

As of Wednesday morning, the community’s generosity has already made a notable impact. The campaign’s mascot, Sparkle the Christmas Star, expressed gratitude for the contributions, emphasizing that funds raised through Give-A-Christmas remain local, ensuring that every donation provides direct assistance to community members. “It’s an honor to help our Salvation Army units. They do so much good for those who need a helping hand,” Sparkle stated.

Over its long history, Give-A-Christmas has raised more than $1 million, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during the holiday season. Donations will be accepted until December 23, 2023, with the final tally announced in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.

Community members continue to step forward with their contributions. Recent donors include:
– Ronald Gaydos, with a message: “Merry Christmas from Ron and Pat Gaydos.”
– Barbara Hoferer, honoring those who have passed away.
– The Juniata United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, contributing in honor of both current members and deceased individuals.
– Colette M Freiberg, in memory of Gerald Grimes and other family members.
– David & Kathie Voelker, remembering Don and Sally Leaphart.

Contributions can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas at c/o Herald-Standard, located at 8 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401. Checks should be made payable to Give-A-Christmas. Additionally, donations may be delivered in person at the newspaper office from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
