Rainbow Maldonado Appointed Senior Advancement Officer for United Way

The United Way of the Blue Mountains has announced the appointment of Rainbow Maldonado as the new senior advancement officer for the Oregon Region, effective early 2026. Based in Pendleton, Maldonado will spearhead efforts to enhance community engagement and advancement initiatives across several counties, including Umatilla, Morrow, Union, Baker, and Wallowa.

Extensive Experience in Nonprofit Sector

Maldonado brings over 30 years of experience in community leadership, nonprofit management, and advocacy to this role. She has a long-standing relationship with United Way, having contributed to its mission in various capacities throughout her career. In her new position, she aims to continue and expand this vital work.

Notably, she founded and led her own nonprofit organization, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Her dedication to community advocacy and volunteerism has earned her recognition as a committed advocate for building healthier, more resilient communities.

Academic Background and Personal Life

Maldonado holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, with an emphasis on advocacy, from Idaho State University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration, focusing on state and local nonprofit administration. Her academic journey complements her extensive professional experience, positioning her well for her upcoming role.

Residing in Pendleton with her husband, Maldonado enjoys outdoor activities and supporting her children at collegiate soccer games. Family time is important to her, especially as she cherishes moments spent with her first grandchild.
