Remembering Christine Messersmith: A Life of Faith and Service

Christine Hunter Messersmith, 82, of Summerfield, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2026, under hospice care. Her family announced her death, highlighting her legacy of love and service that touched many lives.

Born on January 16, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Christine was the daughter of Thomas Winfield Hunter and Esther Griffiths Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Winfield Hunter, Jr., and her son, Ryan Jay Messersmith. Christine is survived by her devoted husband of over sixty years, Robert Paul Messersmith, their son, Robert “Paul” Messersmith, Jr., his wife, Candy, and her cherished grandchildren, Ruby, Robbie, and Liam.

Christine earned her bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University and enjoyed a successful career as an executive administrator in both Indiana and Georgia. Her strong work ethic and organizational skills were widely admired, particularly as she balanced her professional ambitions with raising a young family.

Being the wife of a United States Air Force serviceman, Christine faced the challenges of military life with grace and patience. She was actively engaged in the Officers’ Wives Club, providing friendship and support to fellow military families throughout their various assignments.

A long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Christine’s life was deeply rooted in her faith. She found joy in singing with the church choir and teaching children’s summer Bible school, where her kindness and gentle spirit left a significant impact on many young lives.

Christine’s commitment to charitable work was notable. Most recently, she devoted her time to supporting local food pantries by delivering meals to homebound individuals. She also took the initiative to deliver flowers to congregation members who were ill or unable to attend services, reflecting her compassion and care for others.

Throughout her life, Christine embraced various hobbies. Her needlepoint, crafts, and decorations are cherished reminders of her creativity and encouragement. Her competitive spirit was evident in family games, fishing outings, and enjoying sporting events. An avid golfer, she was a proud member of the Eagle Ridge Ladies Golf Association, relishing time spent on the course with friends and family.

Christine will be remembered for her generosity, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her life was marked by faith and service, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
