SacRT Launches 2025 Holiday Bus to Support Foster Youth

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) has introduced its 2025 Holiday Bus, a festive initiative designed to spread holiday cheer while supporting foster youth in the region. The bus was unveiled on December 2, 2024, at the Stanford Sierra Youth & Families center in Sacramento. It will provide free rides until January 2, 2025, allowing riders to enjoy the holiday spirit without fare worries.

In a collaborative effort with Stanford Sierra Youth & Families, which serves over 2,800 foster youth, SacRT aims to raise awareness about the needs of these young individuals. The nonprofit organization plays a crucial role in providing mental health support and fostering connections among siblings and relatives. Many of the youths they assist are teenagers facing significant challenges.

Riders on the Holiday Bus are encouraged to make voluntary donations, either on board or through the SacRT website. These contributions will directly support programs designed to uplift foster children throughout the area. SacRT officials emphasized that this initiative goes beyond just providing free transportation; it serves as an opportunity for community engagement.

Community Involvement and Upcoming Events

In addition to the bus initiative, SacRT is organizing a “Stuff the Bus” event on December 6, 2024, from 08:00 to noon at the Sunrise Light Rail Station in Rancho Cordova. Community members are invited to donate toys and gift cards that will be given directly to foster youth, making the season brighter for those in need.

The Holiday Bus will also participate in the upcoming Santa Parade, which is set to take place on December 13, 2024, at 10:00 in Capitol Park. This event will further highlight the importance of fostering connections and support within the community.

SacRT’s Holiday Bus initiative serves as a reminder of the potential impact individuals can have on the lives of foster youth. By providing free rides and encouraging donations, the program fosters not only goodwill but also a spirit of community involvement and support.
