Students from across Oklahoma will gather at the Dove Science Academy’s South Middle / High School on January 29, 2026, to participate in the School Choice Showcase, an event celebrating the diverse educational options available in the state. This gathering coincides with National School Choice Week, highlighting the importance of educational freedom and the benefits of school choice.
Starting at 3:30 PM and running until 6:00 PM, the event will feature students and parents sharing personal experiences about how their educational choices have positively impacted their lives. The showcase aims to inform families about the various K–12 options available, including public, charter, magnet, private, online, and home schools.
Expanding Educational Opportunities in Oklahoma
Oklahoma has seen a significant expansion of K–12 educational options over the last decade. The state has broadened access to diverse learning environments, enabling families to select schools that best fit their children’s unique needs. According to Brent Bushey, CEO of Fuel OKC, “This event gives families an opportunity to explore their school options and make confident, informed decisions about their child’s education.”
Bushey emphasized the importance of allowing children to attend schools that are the best fit for them rather than being restricted to options based solely on their residential zip codes. He stated, “When families have more options, students have more opportunities to thrive.”
The School Choice Showcase is organized by Fuel OKC in partnership with the National School Choice Awareness Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating parents about K–12 school choices. The event is free to attend and is open to families, educators, and community members interested in learning more about available educational options.
National School Choice Week and Its Impact
National School Choice Week, which runs from January 25 to 31, includes over 28,000 events held across the United States. The primary goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of the various educational opportunities available to families and to empower parents to find the right learning environment for their children.
The National School Choice Awareness Foundation operates several programs aimed at guiding families through the school choice process. Their initiatives, including Navigate School Choice and Conoce tus Opciones Escolares, focus on increasing awareness of the educational options available to all families, regardless of their background.
