Bassett’s professional journey began in 1965 when he joined the Santa Ana Police Department after completing four years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He progressed through various roles, ultimately rising to the position of Area Commander. This wealth of experience prepared him for his role in Santa Cruz, where he became Chief of Police.
