U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on November 12, 2023, that recent operations in Syria have significantly weakened the capabilities of the ISIS terrorist group. Over the past month, local forces, supported by the U.S.-led coalition, successfully neutralized 24 ISIS members, including five killed and 19 captured.
CENTCOM highlighted that from October 1 to November 6, coalition forces, in partnership with their Syrian allies, conducted more than 22 operations aimed at dismantling ISIS cells. These efforts represent a concerted strategy to combat the persistent threat posed by the organization in the region.
Ongoing Commitment to Counterterrorism
Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, emphasized the importance of these operations in his statement. “Our success in countering the ISIS threat in Syria is a notable achievement,” he remarked. “We will continue to aggressively pursue ISIS remnants in Syria while working with the Global Coalition Against ISIS to ensure the gains made against the group in Iraq and Syria are lasting and that ISIS is not able to regenerate or export terrorist attacks to other countries.”
The operations underscore the ongoing commitment of the United States and its allies to combat terrorism and maintain stability in the region. The coalition’s strategic approach includes advising, assisting, and enabling local forces to enhance their operational capabilities against ISIS.
These recent developments have raised hopes for improved security in Syria, a country that has faced prolonged conflict and instability. The actions taken by CENTCOM and its partners aim to prevent any resurgence of ISIS and protect civilian populations from the threat of terrorism.
As operations continue, CENTCOM remains focused on ensuring the effectiveness of their counterterrorism strategies, demonstrating a long-term commitment to security in Syria and the broader region.
