Voters Urged to Reelect Brown, Parmenter, and Peterson in Colorado

Residents of the Durango School District are encouraged to support the reelection of current school board members Erika Brown, Andrea Parmenter, and Rick Peterson in the upcoming elections. This call for action comes in light of the district’s impressive performance, despite Colorado’s relatively low per pupil education funding compared to other states.

The success of the Durango public school system can be attributed, in part, to the dedication and commitment of its school board members. As an educator who has worked within the district, I have observed the positive impact of the current administration and board on student outcomes. Their collaborative efforts have fostered an environment that prioritizes educational excellence.

During a recent forum hosted by the League of Women Voters, I aimed to assess the candidates’ platforms and ideas. Unfortunately, only one of the three challengers, Tamara Fenberg, attended, while Pearl Stegner was notably absent. This lack of participation raises questions about the challengers’ commitment to engaging with the community and addressing the needs of our students.

The forum provided insight into the capabilities and vision of the incumbents. I left with a clear understanding that Brown, Parmenter, and Peterson possess both the knowledge and dedication required to continue advancing our schools. Their willingness to invest time and effort in understanding the district’s requirements sets them apart as informed candidates.

In a time when educational funding remains a challenge, the experience and leadership of the current board members are vital. They have demonstrated their ability to navigate complex issues and advocate effectively for the needs of our children.

As voters prepare to make their decisions, it is crucial to consider the candidates’ engagement and readiness to serve. The commitment shown by Brown, Parmenter, and Peterson positions them as the best choice to ensure continued progress within the Durango School District. It is with this understanding that I urge fellow community members to support their reelection.
