Carol Stent, Beloved Wife and Community Advocate, Passes Away

Carol A. Stent passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her loving husband, David Y. Nakahara Esq.. Known for her vibrant personality and deep love for animals, Carol’s life was marked by significant relationships and community engagement.

Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of six siblings. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, where she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who guided her education.

Following her graduation, Carol sought adventure, moving to San Francisco, California, with four classmates. There, she embarked on various careers, ultimately finding love and companionship. Her striking beauty and zest for life led her to Los Angeles, where she met Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern. The couple married at the iconic Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his residency and achieved board certification in neurology.

In the 1980s, Carol and Raymond divorced. She later found true love with David Nakahara, and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989. Together, they shared their lives and home, where they raised numerous pets, affectionately referred to as their “fur babies,” reflecting Carol’s passion for all creatures.

Carol’s dedication extended beyond her personal life. She played a crucial role in caring for David’s elderly parents, providing them with love, support, and guidance during their final years. This commitment came even as she recovered from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. Despite her challenges, Carol’s spirit remained unbroken, illuminating the lives of those around her with her wit and genuine love.

Her legacy is carried on by her husband, David, as well as her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.

Carol A. Stent will be remembered fondly for her warmth, resilience, and the joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her. As her family reflects on her life, they embrace the sentiment, “Soli Deo Gloria”—Only To God the Glory.
