Community Mourns Loss of Charismatic Storyteller Augie Sorrentino

Augustino “Augie” Sorrentino, a beloved member of the San Pedro community, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 72 years old. A lifelong resident of San Pedro, Augie was known for his vibrant personality and extraordinary storytelling ability, which endeared him to many.

Born on March 20, 1953, Augie dedicated his life to his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mieke Sorrentino, along with their children: Lisa Poteat (married to Chas Poteat), Joe Sorrentino (married to Jessica), Liz Sorrentino (married to Amanda), and Vincent Sorrentino. Augie also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, including Joseph Parsons (with Ricarda), Ava Sorrentino, Augie Sorrentino, Gray Poteat, Sam Sorrentino, and Pearl Sorrentino.

Augie’s undeniable charisma and dynamic presence left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, making each individual feel valued and appreciated. His laughter, captivating tales, and vibrant energy will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

Family was the cornerstone of Augie’s life. His greatest joy stemmed from being surrounded by his loved ones, particularly his grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and fulfillment to his life. Augie’s legacy embodies devotion, strength, humor, and an unwavering love for family.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

A visitation will take place on March 4, 2026, at McNerney’s Mortuary in San Pedro, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The first hour will be reserved for immediate family, while friends and guests are encouraged to visit from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 5, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro. Following the service, interment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. A reception will be hosted afterward at the home of Sal and Louise Sorrentino.

Community Tribute

Augie Sorrentino will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor, Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, or the Toberman Neighborhood Center. These organizations reflect Augie’s commitment to community and family, values he instilled in those around him.
