Remembering Kevin J. McAloon: A Life of Service and Adventure

Kevin J. McAloon, a notable figure in the aerospace industry and a passionate outdoorsman, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon. His educational journey began at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, followed by St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. After completing high school, McAloon served for two years in the U.S. Army before pursuing higher education.

McAloon graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and earned his Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Southern California. He dedicated 30 years to the aerospace sector, working with prominent companies such as Douglas Aircraft and Northrop, and he spent the last 23 years of his career at TRW, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute to the field as a part-time consultant at TRW and Northrop Grumman for an additional nine years.

A Passion for Adventure and Family

Beyond his professional achievements, McAloon was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He took great joy in both dirt and street motorcycle riding, often embarking on local and cross-country trips with his children. His adventurous spirit also extended to running, where he completed four marathons, three of which he ran alongside his son, in addition to countless 10K races. After transitioning from running, he discovered a passion for cycling, enjoying rides along the scenic Palos Verdes peninsula, and later exploring the farm roads of the Sacramento Valley, where he developed an interest in farming technology.

McAloon is survived by his four children, including Karen, and two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine. He also leaves behind four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy. His family fondly remembers him not only for his professional accomplishments but for his vibrant personality and sense of humor.

As his family noted, “He will be missed. His wit, charm, kindness, and deep love of salt, along with his Irish humor, will always be cherished.”

Kevin J. McAloon’s legacy is one of dedication, adventure, and love for family, marking a life well-lived and a spirit that will be remembered by those who knew him.
