Tricia Marcello, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 79, in Manhattan Beach, California. Born Tricia Taw on September 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, she was the middle child of Richard and Mary Taw. Tricia’s early years were spent in Inglewood and Culver City, where she created lasting memories during summers in Ely, Nevada, with her extended family.
A Journey Through Career and Community
Tricia embarked on her professional journey at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), working as a ticket agent for American Airlines. This role not only honed her skills in problem-solving and understanding people but also nurtured her remarkable sense of humor. Over the years, she transitioned into television production, contributing to various projects, including movies-of-the-week and live shows such as Circus of the Stars.
Her passion for the creative arts, particularly music, was a defining aspect of her life. Tricia was known for her love of literature, often found with a book in hand—sometimes two or three. In 1984, she married John Marcello, forming a partnership that would flourish over more than four decades.
As a mother, Tricia welcomed her daughter, Molly, into the world, which marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with parenting experiences. She became actively involved in local education, serving as PTA president and volunteering with community organizations such as Sandpipers.
A Home Filled with Warmth and Creativity
Tricia was renowned for her hospitality, creating a welcoming environment in her Manhattan Beach home for family and friends. Her home became a gathering place, where loved ones would enjoy her homemade dinners and biscotti. A friend affectionately referred to her as the “innkeeper of the Marcello B&B.”
Known for her generosity, Tricia acted as a confidant to many, always ready to lend an ear or help someone navigate a difficult decision. Her unique style, a blend of bohemian, vintage steampunk, and her own creative flair, further defined her vibrant personality.
In recent years, Tricia faced significant health challenges, including multiple surgeries related to rheumatoid arthritis and genetic heart issues. Despite these difficulties, she approached her health battles with resilience, drawing strength from her Catholic faith and trust in her medical team. Her positivity and humor often shone through even in the toughest moments, as she was quick to lighten the mood with insightful and witty remarks.
Tricia’s appreciation for friends and family who shared her sense of humor created a lasting bond with those around her. She will be deeply missed, and as those who loved her reflect on her life, they remember that “all the limoncello in the world could never erase the pain of losing her,” but as she would often say, “it certainly helps.”
A funeral mass will be held at American Martyrs Catholic Church on November 10, 2023, at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at O’Donnell Hall. Friends and family are encouraged to celebrate the life of Tricia Marcello, a woman whose laughter and love touched many lives.
