WWII Veteran LeRoy Forehand Passes Away at 102 in Torrance

LeRoy Forehand, a distinguished World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 7, 2026, at the age of 102. His life was marked by service to his country and a commitment to his community.

Born in Grinnell, Iowa, in 1923, LeRoy moved to southern California in 1941. He began his career at Lockheed Aircraft, working as an aircraft ordnance technician on P-38 fighters. Shortly after, in August 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving valiantly in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, he played a crucial role as a Beach Master during the Battle of Saipan in 1945, a pivotal moment in the war.

Community Involvement and Legacy

After his military service, LeRoy returned to southern California, where he worked for TRW and later for CALTRANS until his retirement. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. In 1960, he joined the Gardena Masonic Lodge, eventually attaining the office of Master.

LeRoy was also deeply involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he served on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years. His dedication to fellow veterans was evident through his active participation in events such as the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade and his support for the USS Iowa.

Memorial Services and Celebrations

LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand. A viewing will take place at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on Thursday, February 26, from 16:00 to 19:00. The memorial service will be held at the mortuary chapel on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00. Following the service, LeRoy will be interred at Green Hills Cemetery.

A celebration of LeRoy’s life will follow the interment at Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd. Family, friends, and community members are encouraged to gather and honor his remarkable life and legacy.
