The Arizona Wildcats football team has strengthened its roster with the commitment of former Georgetown linebacker Cooper Blomstrom. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound athlete brings with him a wealth of experience and skill, having played three seasons at Georgetown. He has one season of eligibility remaining, making him a valuable addition as Arizona aims to compete in the Big 12.
Blomstrom’s collegiate career at Georgetown has been impressive. Over the course of 31 games, he made 19 starts, amassing 117 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss, and recorded 16 sacks. Additionally, he forced five fumbles, recovered one, and intercepted a pass. His standout performance earned him First Team All-Patriot League honors twice, marking him as one of the top defenders in the FCS.
At Georgetown, Blomstrom primarily played on the defensive line but will transition to linebacker for Arizona. This shift allows him to potentially fill a role similar to that of Riley Wilson, who fluctuated between the edge and outside linebacker in 2025. The Wildcats are optimistic that Blomstrom’s capabilities will translate effectively to their defensive scheme.
Arizona’s coaching staff has been focused on rebuilding the team since last offseason, successfully recruiting several players who excelled at the FCS level. Defensive standouts such as Malachi Bailey, Max Harris, Deshawn McKnight, and Wilson have already made significant impacts on the team. Blomstrom now joins this group as the third addition from the NCAA transfer portal, marking the first defensive recruit for the Wildcats this season.
As the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season, they will benefit from returning players like rising seniors Taye Brown and Chase Kennedy. Brown has played in 24 games at linebacker, including 18 consecutive starts, while Kennedy has recently established himself as a strong presence, starting the last seven games. Additionally, the team welcomes underclassmen Jabari Mann and Myron Robinson, the latter of whom started at Cincinnati before an injury sidelined him.
The 2026 recruiting class also looks promising, featuring Dash Fifita, the younger brother of Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita. This influx of talent positions the Wildcats for a competitive season ahead.
As Arizona continues its recruitment efforts, Blomstrom’s commitment is a significant step towards enhancing the team’s defensive capabilities and overall performance in the upcoming season.
