Five-star guard Dylan Mingo has postponed his college decision, but the Baylor Bears remain the frontrunners in his recruitment. Initially expected to announce his choice this week, Mingo clarified that his timeline has changed. “Just got pushed back a bit,” he told ZAGSBLOG, noting that a new announcement date has yet to be determined. As it stands, Mingo is considering Baylor, Washington, Penn State, and North Carolina, with all current predictions on 247Sports favoring the Bears.
The delay in Mingo’s decision does little to alter Baylor’s standing. In fact, it underscores the strong bond he has developed with the program during the final stages of his recruitment. This connection is centered on Baylor’s reputation for player development and its vibrant team culture. Mingo highlighted this aspect when discussing his interest in the Bears. “Honestly, just because of their track record with guards, you know, Tounde Yessoufou, he should go first round this year,” he stated to Rivals. He also mentioned notable alumni like Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell, who have successfully transitioned to the NBA.
Mingo’s relationship with the Baylor coaching staff has played a significant role in his recruitment. He emphasized the importance of shared values, particularly their mutual faith. “They’re strong believers in Christ, which I am as well. And they’re just always so positive and just great people to other people,” he explained.
Baylor’s influence extends beyond just the current coaching staff. Mingo recently spoke with VJ Edgecombe, a former Baylor guard now playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. Their conversation reinforced the ongoing connection he feels with the program. “He (Edgecombe) actually called me today. He said, where are you going, bro? I was like, I can’t tell you all that yet,” Mingo recounted.
On the court, Mingo’s performances continue to justify his five-star ranking. At the NBPA Top 100 Camp, he averaged an impressive 24 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds, earning Camp MVP honors. Additionally, during the Nike EYBL season with the PSA Cardinals, he recorded averages of 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, showcasing his versatility and physical maturity.
Currently, Baylor has one commitment in the 2026 recruiting class, four-star guard Elijah Williams. Should Mingo decide to join, it would significantly elevate the Bears’ profile on a national scale. With a strong track record, NBA connections, and cultural alignment already in place, Baylor remains in a prime position as Mingo’s decision process continues.
