Cincinnati Bengals Trade Logan Wilson to Dallas Cowboys

The Cincinnati Bengals have traded veteran linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys, as confirmed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. This move comes after Wilson, 29, requested a trade last month following the emergence of rookie Barrett Carter, who has taken over his starting position. Wilson recorded 47 tackles in eight games this season, but the Bengals’ coaching staff opted to move forward with their rookie players.

Wilson expressed his thoughts on the situation, stating, “I felt like I was [playing OK]. But obviously Zac [Taylor] felt otherwise.” The Bengals’ defense has faced challenges recently, particularly against the run, allowing over seven yards per carry in their last three games. Despite these struggles, team sources indicate that Cincinnati will not return to Wilson, instead committing to the rookie linebacker duo of Demetrius Knight Jr. and Carter.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addressed Wilson after the trade request, saying, “Just keep focused on being here and helping us as best you can. I know it’s frustrating with the role, but he’s handled it really well.” Taylor acknowledged Wilson’s leadership and his positive influence on younger players during a difficult transition.

Wilson has been a significant contributor to the Bengals since he was drafted in the third round (65th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. His tenure with the team included a trip to Super Bowl LVI and consecutive appearances in the AFC Championship Game in 2021 and 2022. Prior to the 2023 season, Wilson signed a four-year contract worth $36 million, highlighting his importance to the franchise.

This trade marks the second in-season move for the Bengals this year. Last month, they acquired quarterback Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick.

As the Bengals navigate this season, fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how both Wilson and the team adapt to these changes.
