Colts Place Charvarius Ward Sr. on Injured Reserve Following Concussion

The Indianapolis Colts have placed cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games. The decision follows a concussion he sustained during warmups prior to the Colts’ recent victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Ward’s absence will be felt as he missed an entire week of practice leading up to the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ward, 29, joined the Colts this season after notable stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. Since his arrival, he has recorded 13 tackles and three passes defensed in four games. The Colts have a scheduled bye in Week 11, meaning the earliest he could return is during their Week 12 road game against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 23, 2023.

Colts Adjust Roster Amid Injury Concerns

In light of Ward’s injury, the Colts have made several roster adjustments. They signed running back Ameer Abdullah from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Abdullah, a veteran of ten seasons, has previously played in two games this season, tallying three carries for 13 yards and one touchdown. His experience will be critical as the Colts navigate injuries to their running back corps, particularly with Tyler Goodson ruled out due to a groin injury.

The Colts also elevated cornerback Cameron Mitchell and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell from the practice squad to bolster their roster. Additionally, cornerback Kenny Moore II is listed as questionable due to an Achilles injury, while wide receivers Josh Downs and Ashton Dulin have been ruled out for the upcoming match.

Ward’s experience includes significant achievements, such as being part of the Kansas City Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in the 2019 season. He also reached the Super Bowl with both the 2020 Chiefs and the 2023 49ers, although those teams fell short of victory. Furthermore, Ward was recognized as a Pro Bowl pick and selected as a second-team All-Pro in 2023, highlighted by a career-high five interceptions and leading the NFL with 23 pass breakups that season.

As the Colts prepare for their matchup against the Chargers, the team will look to adapt to these changes while maintaining their competitive edge in the season.
