The girls’ water polo team at Davis High School achieved remarkable success, with ten players receiving honors from the Sac-Joaquin Section. The All Sac-Joaquin Section Teams for high school girls water polo, covering Divisions I through III, were recently announced, much to the delight of head coach Jamey Wright.
Wright expressed his astonishment at the number of selections, stating, “Ten picks is amazing.” The standout player was junior goalie Hazel Beatty, who was named the section’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Beatty showcased her talent throughout the season, participating in all 35 games and securing an impressive 323 saves. Her contributions were essential in leading the Blue Devils to victory in the Sierra Foothill League, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I, and the California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Girls Water Polo Championships – Division II.
Six players from Davis High were recognized on the first team. Junior attacker Addie Sinclair led the group with an outstanding 91 goals this season, along with 34 assists. Sinclair, who also played for the varsity softball team, made significant contributions in every game.
Sophomore utility player Katie Tapio also had a standout season, finishing with 61 assists and 56 goals. Another first-team selection, junior attacker Jessie Walker, demonstrated her skills with 55 goals and 56 assists. Sophomore attacker Hilde McConnell was recognized for her impressive tally of 50 goals and 32 assists. Rounding out the first-team selections, Ireland Greenway contributed 22 goals and 18 assists, while junior utility player Aiva Mann scored 46 goals and assisted on 20 before an injury impacted her participation towards the season’s end.
Three additional players from Davis High earned spots on the section’s second team. Freshman attacker Adeline Lee had a strong debut season, finishing with 43 goals and 19 assists. Fellow freshman Harper Seto, who played center, recorded 32 goals and 6 assists. Junior attacker Mia Leyson also made her mark with 14 goals and 16 assists.
The dominance of Davis High was evident, as they, along with SFL competitors Granite Bay and Oak Ridge, accounted for a majority of the first- and second-team selections. Combined, Granite Bay and Oak Ridge had a total of nine players recognized.
In addition to the achievements of Davis High, players from Turlock, Pitman of Turlock, River City of West Sacramento, and Whitney of Rocklin were also honored with selections to both teams, showcasing the competitive spirit of the region’s high school water polo scene.
