Dwayne Johnson, widely known as The Rock, did not secure his first Golden Globe award on January 7, 2024. He lost in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for his portrayal of Mark Kerr in the film ‘The Smashing Machine’. The award went to Brazilian actor Wagner Moura for his performance in ‘The Secret Agent’.
The competition was fierce, with other nominees including Oscar Isaac for ‘Frankenstein’, Michael B. Jordan for ‘Sinners’, Joel Edgerton for ‘Train Dreams’, and Jeremy Allen White for ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’. Johnson’s co-star, Emily Blunt, also faced disappointment in the Best Supporting Actress category, losing to Teyana Taylor for her work in ‘One Battle After Another’.
Box Office Performance and Future Projects
Despite the star power behind ‘The Smashing Machine’, the film struggled at the box office, earning only $21 million globally. Johnson’s portrayal of Kerr, a former MMA and UFC star, received acclaim, but it was not enough to propel the film to commercial success.
Looking ahead, Johnson has several projects in the pipeline. He is currently involved in a live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’, which is in post-production. Additionally, he is set to appear in ‘Jumanji 3’, ‘Fast X: Part 2’, ‘The King’, and ‘Lizard Music’. Excitingly, he is also slated to collaborate with acclaimed director Martin Scorsese on an untitled film.
Johnson’s career continues to thrive, and while he may not have captured a Golden Globe this year, his future endeavors promise further opportunities for recognition in Hollywood.
