Giants Invite 19 Players to Spring Training, Including All-Star Fulmer

The San Francisco Giants have extended non-roster invitations to spring training for 19 players, featuring a blend of promising prospects and experienced veterans. Among the notable names is former All-Star pitcher Michael Fulmer, who aims to secure a spot in the team’s bullpen.

Pitchers and catchers are set to report in Scottsdale, Arizona, on February 11, 2025, while position players are expected to arrive by February 16. Players participating in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, including the Giants’ ace Logan Webb, can report starting on the same day as the pitchers and catchers.

Michael Fulmer, 32, made headlines in 2016 when he won the American League Rookie of the Year award with the Detroit Tigers. The former first-round draft pick quickly became an All-Star in 2017. Transitioning to a closer role in 2021, he saved 14 games. Fulmer faced challenges from 2021 to 2023, appearing in at least 50 games each season but missing all of 2024 due to UCL revision surgery. Last season, he played for four different organizations—the Red Sox, Cubs, Royals, and Mariners—but only made three Major League appearances. He concluded the season with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate, achieving an impressive 0.75 ERA and recording 18 strikeouts over 12 innings.

Other pitchers included in the non-roster invitation list are left-hander Nick Margevicius and right-handers Gregory Santos and Caleb Kilian, all of whom have Major League experience.

Emerging Prospects Highlight NRI List

Among the prospects invited to spring training, the most intriguing are corner infielder Parks Harber, outfielder Bo Davidson, and first-round draft pick Will Bednar.

Parks Harber, 24, has emerged as a fascinating prospect after going undrafted out of college. He has performed well in the minor leagues, hitting .312 with 14 home runs across 102 games since signing with the Yankees as a free agent following the 2024 draft. The Giants acquired him last summer in a trade involving Camilo Doval. Harber showcased his talent in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted a .383 batting average, a .513 on-base percentage, and a .683 slugging percentage, culminating in a 1.196 OPS, ranking fourth in the league. Despite his strong performance, he faces competition for positions at the Major League level, particularly first and third base.

Outfielder Bo Davidson, 23, had a productive season split between High-A Eugene and Double-A Richmond, achieving a combined batting average of .281 with 18 home runs. Despite a high strikeout rate, Davidson is regarded as one of the top outfield prospects in the organization.

Will Bednar, 25, selected 14th overall in the 2021 draft, has experienced setbacks due to back injuries. Last season marked a turning point, as he participated in a career-high 38 games, including two at Triple-A Sacramento, with a 4.97 ERA over 50.2 innings.

Also highlighted in the invitation list is Jake Holton, a first baseman who grew up in San Jose, California. Holton, a 10th-round pick by the Tigers in 2019, hit 19 home runs last season at Double-A and recently signed as a minor league free agent.
