Lumberjacks Dominate Orono Invitational, Claim Five Titles

The Bemidji High School boys wrestling team showcased impressive talent at the Orono Invitational on February 24, 2024, securing five championships across individual brackets. This strong performance propelled the Lumberjacks to a commendable third place overall with a total of 343.5 points, trailing only New Prague and Maple Grove, which finished with 515 and 357 points, respectively.

In the 107-pound category, Ozzie Hanks stood out by finishing first with an undefeated record of 4-0. Owen Bieber also excelled in the 114-pound class, completing his run without a loss in three matches. Other notable performances came from regular BHS winners Gabe Morin and Nick Strand, who dominated their weight classes at 133 and 139 pounds, respectively.

Morin achieved a record of 3-0 with a bye and secured two victories by technical fall. Strand, on the other hand, went 4-0, showcasing his skills with two pins and one technical fall victory. The impressive lineup was rounded out by Nehemiah Schwinghammer, who triumphed at 285 pounds with a 3-0 record.

Additionally, Jeremy Linn contributed to the team’s efforts by securing fourth place in the 152-pound category. His performance, along with the other wrestlers, highlighted the Lumberjacks’ competitive spirit and skill throughout the tournament.
