Oregon State Football Welcomes JaMarcus Shepard as New Head Coach

Oregon State University has officially appointed JaMarcus Shepard as its new head football coach, a significant move announced on November 28, 2025. This announcement follows reports of Shepard being a top candidate for the position, signaling a new era for the Beavers’ football program.

In a press release, Scott Barnes, Oregon State’s athletics director, expressed enthusiasm about the hiring. “I’m extremely excited to announce JaMarcus Shepard as the head coach of the Oregon State football program,” he stated. Barnes emphasized Shepard’s character and leadership qualities, noting his ability to connect with student-athletes. “His values align perfectly as an exceptional leader who fosters a sincere connection with his student athletes,” he added.

Shepard joins Oregon State after serving as the co-offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, and assistant head coach at Alabama. This new role marks Shepard’s first head coaching position, having previously worked at both Washington and Purdue. He is set to be introduced at a press conference scheduled for December 2, 2025.

“I’m honored to lead the Oregon State University football program and to join a community that cares so deeply about its student-athletes,” Coach Shepard remarked. He emphasized his commitment to establishing a culture grounded in “toughness, integrity, and relentless effort,” and expressed eagerness to collaborate with players, staff, and supporters to advance Beaver football.

During his tenure at Alabama, Shepard played a key role in developing an offense that averages over 415 yards per game, contributing to the team’s impressive record of 9-2 this season. The Crimson Tide averages 33.8 points per game, showcasing Shepard’s effectiveness in a high-pressure environment.

At Washington, Shepard made a significant impact on player development. In the 2022-23 season, two of his wide receivers, Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk, earned first-team All-American honors. Odunze was subsequently selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, while quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the eighth overall pick.

As the Beavers prepare for their upcoming game against Washington State on November 29, 2025, the energy surrounding the program is palpable. The match is set to take place at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington, starting at 3:30 p.m. (PT). Oregon State fans are eager to see how Shepard will shape the future of the team and build upon its legacy.

With his extensive experience and proven track record, JaMarcus Shepard’s appointment is poised to invigorate the Oregon State football program as it looks to achieve new heights under his leadership.
