According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas and an acquaintance arranged to meet two men at a gas station located in the 7200 block of Elroy Road, southeast of Austin, with the intent to purchase a THC vape cartridge. However, the situation took a tragic turn when Thomas allegedly attempted to rob the men while sitting in the back seat of their vehicle.
During the confrontation, all three individuals reportedly discharged their firearms multiple times. Authorities received reports of gunfire around midnight and quickly dispatched deputies to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered Thomas suffering from gunshot wounds and he was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle sought medical assistance for Ashwym Basil, also 19, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:55 a.m.. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Thomas was arrested shortly after the shooting and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
