Beloved Lowell Resident William Leo Keegan Passes Away at 76

BREAKING: Longtime Lowell resident William Leo Keegan has passed away peacefully at the age of 76 after a brief illness. His death occurred on October 22, 2025, shocking family and friends who cherished his vibrant spirit and love for life.

Born on April 4, 1949, in Lowell, Bill was the eldest son of the late William L. Keegan and Ruth Lane Keegan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth (Townsend) Keegan, and was also the loving husband of the late Patricia O’Connor Keegan.

A graduate of St. Peter’s School and Lowell High School class of 1967, Bill dedicated many years of service to the City of Lowell in the City Engineer’s Department before retiring. His impact on the community was profound, and he was known for his generosity and kindness.

Bill’s passion for golf was evident throughout his life. He enjoyed memberships at both Mt. Pleasant Golf Club and Long Meadow Golf Club, representing Long Meadow in the 1977 Cities Golf Tournament. Golfing with friends such as Evan Bubanas and Ted O’Brien brought him immense joy and camaraderie.

In addition to his love for golf, Bill was an avid reader and cherished watching classic films. He embraced life fully, enjoying travel, dining out, and spending time at the beach.

Bill leaves behind a loving family, including his brother and sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Keegan, and brother-in-law, Al Parke. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Christopher Parke and Alicia Rogers of No. Chelmsford, Amanda Parke of Lowell, and Andrew Parke of Marblehead, among others. He was predeceased by his sister, Constance (Connie) A. Parke, and brother, Robert P. Keegan.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at The Immaculate Conception Church, located at 144 East Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01852, starting at 10 AM. A Mass will follow at 12 PM, with burial taking place at St. Mary Cemetery in North Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
