Beloved Yorktown Mother Idell Lude Passes Away at 86

URGENT UPDATE: The Yorktown community mourns the loss of Idell (Dubose) Lude, who passed away on January 1, 2026, at the age of 86. Known for her unwavering dedication to family and community, Idell’s passing leaves a profound impact on those who knew her.

Idell Lude was born on March 31, 1939, to George and Lucy (Howard) Dubose. A proud graduate of Yorktown High School and Victoria Beauty College, she began her career at the Modern Beauty Shop in Yorktown before embarking on her most important role as a mother. Married to her husband David William Lude on November 11, 1961, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Idell dedicated her life to nurturing her two sons, Jeffery David and Garrett Wayne Lude.

Idell’s legacy is marked by her extraordinary strength. For 50 years, she provided unwavering support to her son Jeffery, who had special needs, embodying the spirit of selflessness and love. Known for her remarkable gardening skills, Idell transformed her home into a sanctuary, admired by neighbors for its beauty.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David, her son Jeffery, and her parents. Idell is survived by her son Garrett, his wife Dianne (Kleinkauf) Lude, and granddaughter Sarah Louise Lude, who resides in California.

Visitation will take place from 9 AM to 10 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Massey Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Cemetery.
