UPDATE: The Branson School girls volleyball team is poised to defend their title against Marin Catholic in the North Coast Section Open Division finals, following a decisive victory against Redwood. The finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2025, at Marin Catholic.
Branson dominated the semifinals on November 5, 2025, defeating Redwood in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-21. The No. 4-seeded Bulls (19-7) avenged a previous five-set loss to the No. 1 Giants (19-9) during the regular season.
“We really want to defend it,” said Branson outside hitter Ella Tsai, emphasizing the team’s determination to retain their title. “It’s something that we feel like belongs to us.”
The Bulls showcased their skill in the semifinals with strong service runs from players like Abby King and Blake Cussen, quickly establishing leads of 8-3 and 17-5 in the first set. Branson’s libero, Lucy Tusher, noted the impact of their competitive rhythm after a lengthy layoff and credited their practice routines for the strong performance.
Branson’s attack was well-rounded, with four players achieving at least nine kills. Tsai led the team with 14 kills, while middle blocker Ellie Corsello added 11 kills and both Cussen and King contributed nine kills each. The team’s holistic approach to offense kept Redwood’s blockers guessing.
Coach Michelle Brazil praised the efforts of her setters, Kate Bianchi and Lily Gross, as well as the back row defenders, for enabling such an effective attack. “The fact that Ellie got so many sets is indicative of us passing and playing defense so well,” she stated.
Despite a strong start by Redwood in the second set, Branson quickly reclaimed the lead and maintained control throughout the match. Redwood, having faced similar struggles in their previous match against Marin Catholic, fought hard but ultimately fell short against Branson’s powerful offense.
As Branson prepares for the finals, they will face Marin Catholic, who previously defeated them in the MCAL semifinals. This match marks the third meeting between the two teams this season, and Branson is eager to settle the score.
With championship aspirations on the line, fans can expect an electrifying rematch. The final promises to be a thrilling showdown as the Bulls aim to solidify their legacy in the North Coast Section.
