UPDATE: The Yale Bulldogs men’s fencing team has launched their season with an impressive performance at the Vassar Open Invitational, winning all five matches over the weekend. Starting strong, the Bulldogs defeated Drew University with a commanding score of 21-6, followed by another decisive victory against Stevens College, again 21-6. The team continued their dominance, overcoming Lafayette College 19-8, and Johns Hopkins University 18-9, before wrapping up the day with a 19-8 win against Sacred Heart University.
Captain Jordan Silberzweig ’27 expressed excitement about the season, stating, “After months of preparation and long morning practices, we came in hungry to compete at a high level.” With a robust roster, including three returning NCAA Championship qualifiers, the Bulldogs are poised for success this year.
The women’s fencing team also showcased their skills at the tournament, finishing with an impressive 6-1 record. They recorded significant wins over Yeshiva University and Lafayette College, with scores of 21-0 and 20-1, respectively. Despite a close loss to Cornell 13-14, the team triumphed over Brown 16-11. Captain Amanda O’Donnell ’26 noted, “The past meet went well… We beat six teams, including Brown, which set a really good tone for the rest of the season.”
As they prepare for the Tri-State Shark Showcase in Brooklyn on November 23, 2023, both teams are focused on building momentum and improving their standings in upcoming competitions. The Bulldogs aim to enhance their performance at the Ivy League Championships in 2026, with the women’s team welcoming four new first-years who have competed at the World Championships.
