UPDATE: BYD has just confirmed the upcoming arrival of its new electric SUV, the Yuan Max, spotted for the first time in China. This exciting development marks a significant expansion in BYD’s popular Yuan EV lineup, highlighting the company’s commitment to the electric vehicle market.
The Yuan Max, heavily camouflaged during testing, showcases a design reminiscent of the well-received Yuan Plus, also known internationally as the Atto 3. Recent spy images released by Autohome reveal a striking front-end design that fans of the brand will find familiar. Notably, the C-Pillar appears slightly elongated, suggesting the Yuan Max will be closer in dimensions to the larger Song Pro model.
To put this into perspective, the Yuan Plus measures 4,455 mm in length with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. In contrast, the Song Pro is 4,735 mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. This new addition to the lineup is expected to fill an essential gap between these two models, potentially offering a third row of seating for families and larger groups.
The Yuan Max is projected to be the largest member of the Yuan series, enhancing BYD’s growing lineup of electric SUVs. Data from CnEVPost indicates that BYD sold over 393,000 Yuan vehicles in the first 11 months of this year, representing 9.4% of the company’s overall sales. This surge in popularity underscores the urgent demand for electric SUVs in the current market.
Spy photos also hint at an interior that remains true to BYD’s design philosophy, featuring a floating central infotainment screen and a compact driver display. The steering wheel proudly displays the Chinese character for “Yuan,” reinforcing the model’s identity within the lineup.
This unveiling comes shortly after BYD announced plans to launch two high-end flagship EVs, the Seal 08 sedan and the Sealion 08 SUV, set to debut in early 2026. These models will incorporate the latest software advancements, including enhanced ADAS technology, positioning BYD as a leader in the electric vehicle sector.
As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, the Yuan Max is poised to attract attention from consumers looking for a spacious and efficient SUV. The urgency around this new model reflects BYD’s strategic move to capture a broader audience in the competitive EV landscape.
Stay tuned for more updates as BYD prepares for the official launch of the Yuan Max, which is expected to make waves in the electric vehicle community.
