This game, which was played in St. Louis, also coincided with Colpitts’ 20th birthday, adding a personal milestone to her historic day.
Colpitts delivered the decisive strike in the 70th minute, maneuvering expertly outside the 18-yard box before curling her shot into the far-side netting. The Bears equalized just minutes earlier in the 68th minute after trailing since the 22nd minute, demonstrating their resilience in this high-stakes matchup.
This victory marks back-to-back national titles for the Bears, who finished the season with an impressive record of 21-0-3, remaining undefeated throughout the campaign. Washington previously won national championships in 2016 and 2024, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in collegiate soccer.
Colpitts was recognized as one of three players from her team named to the all-tournament team. As a sophomore, she tied for third on the team this season with nine goals and contributed three assists over 24 games. Last year, she recorded five goals and four assists, showcasing her continued development as a key player.
In other sports news, the Archie Williams boys’ basketball team celebrated a 58-48 victory over the hosts at the Piedmont Tournament on Saturday night.
