Colfax High School Coach Reece Jenkin Passes Away at 45

Reece Jenkin, a dedicated coach of the Colfax High School boys’ basketball team, passed away at the age of 45 on February 27, 2026, at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Diagnosed on December 11, 2025, he fought valiantly until the end, leaving a profound legacy in the sport he loved.

In the midst of a remarkable season, Coach Jenkin led the Bulldogs to an impressive 24-0 record and secured the top seed for the state 2B tournament. As the season progressed, he took the time to gather his team at his home, offering words of encouragement and expressing his unwavering support. This gesture highlighted his deep commitment to his players, ensuring they felt prepared for the challenges ahead without him.

Legacy of Excellence in Coaching

Born on August 28, 1980, in Spokane, Washington, Reece grew up in Nine-Mile Falls. He attended school in Reardan, where he showcased his talents in football, basketball, and track. Graduating from Reardan High School in 1999, he continued his basketball journey at Big Bend Community College and later at Whitworth University. There, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Reece met his future wife, Breanne Rugo, during his senior year through mutual friends. They married on August 27, 2005, and shortly afterward moved to Colfax, where he began working as the business manager for the Colfax School District. His coaching career began with a year of middle school football, followed by an impressive 18-year tenure as head coach of the Bulldogs’ boys’ basketball team. Under his leadership, the team achieved over 300 wins, made eight consecutive state tournament appearances, and clinched state titles in 2012 and 2024.

Reece was not only a coach but also a beloved figure within the Inland Northwest coaching community. His influence extended beyond high school basketball, as he contributed to the Hooptown Elite AAU program in Spokane, participating in competitions across the United States.

A Family Man and Community Leader

Family was paramount for Reece. He was a devoted father to his three children: Adrik (18), Allie (15), and Ryker (13). His pride in their accomplishments was evident to all who knew him. Reece is survived by his wife, Breanne, and their children, as well as his parents, Rick and Nancy Jenkin, and his brother, Josh, all residing in Reardan. His legacy will also endure through the many players, coaches, and friends he impacted across the region.

A private family ceremony will be held at Colfax Cemetery for Reece. Additionally, a celebration of life service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 14, 2026, at the Colfax High School Gymnasium. Memorial contributions in his honor are suggested to the American Cancer Society fund for pancreatic cancer. Corbeill Funeral Home of Colfax is handling the arrangements.
