Commanders’ QB Jayden Daniels to Undergo MRI for Hamstring Injury

UPDATE: Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is set to undergo an MRI on his right hamstring after suffering an injury during a critical moment in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The injury occurred midway through the third quarter of the Commanders’ 44-22 loss, triggering immediate concerns about his availability moving forward.

During the game at AT&T Stadium on October 29, 2023, Daniels was sacked by rookie linebacker Shemar James, causing his leg to twist awkwardly. Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed that Daniels had felt discomfort prior to exiting the game but refrained from providing specific details about the severity of the injury.

“I just don’t want to say one way or another, and not give the accurate info on that,” Quinn stated, emphasizing the importance of the planned MRI for the second-year quarterback.

Following the play, Daniels was seen grabbing the back of his leg and walked gingerly to the sideline. He briefly entered the medical tent before jogging through the bench area and heading toward the locker room, leaving the Commanders trailing 27-15.

Despite the setback, Daniels had a promising outing, completing 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown before his injury. This was particularly notable as the Commanders played without their top three receivers. In the five games he has participated in this season, Daniels has recorded 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns, and just one interception.

In his absence, Marcus Mariota took over, but the transition proved challenging. Mariota completed just 4 of 10 passes for 63 yards and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, extending Dallas’s lead to 41-15 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.

“It’s tough. He’s been battling all year, and I know that can be very frustrating,” Mariota remarked, highlighting the emotional toll of the injury on both Daniels and the team.

Fans are now anxiously awaiting news from the MRI, as Daniels previously missed two games this season due to a left knee injury, during which the Commanders managed a 1-1 record with Mariota at the helm.

As the Commanders (3-4) look to regain momentum, the outcome of Daniels’ MRI could significantly impact their playoff aspirations this season. Washington is aiming for a return to the postseason, having reached the NFC Championship game last year for the first time in over 30 years.

Stay tuned for updates on Jayden Daniels’ condition and the Commanders’ next steps as they navigate the rest of the season in this critical moment.
