Community Raises Over $25,000 for Families After Stewartville Shooting

UPDATE: The Stewartville community is uniting in a powerful response to a tragic shooting that occurred on Friday morning, December 12, 2025, leaving one dead and a student critically injured. As of Sunday evening, community members have rallied to raise over $25,000 through a GoFundMe campaign initiated by the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club, surpassing the initial goal of $22,000.

The shooting took place around 5 a.m. in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, just as the school’s wrestling team was preparing for a tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. According to Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson, an adult male was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, while a student sustained critical injuries. The identities of those involved have not yet been released.

In a heartfelt statement on Facebook, the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club expressed their grief: “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, friends, coaches, and everyone affected. The wrestling community has always been built on strength, unity, and resilience.” The club emphasized the importance of supporting one another during this devastating time.

As the community grapples with this horrific incident, the fundraising efforts are gaining momentum. Donations can be made in person at any Eagle Rock Bank branch, with contributions directed to the “Stewartville Wrestling Benefit Account.” Additionally, Full Court Custom Apparel Inc. is donating 100% of proceeds from shirt sales to support the victims’ families.

The wrestling community has shown overwhelming support, with rival programs like Dover-Eyota, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Century, and Mayo contributing hundreds of dollars to the cause. The Clash National Wrestling Duals also stepped up with a donation of $1,000.

A press conference is scheduled for Monday, where officials are expected to provide additional details about the incident. As the community continues to come together, the focus remains on helping the families directly affected by this tragedy.
