URGENT UPDATE: Mourners gathered in Porterville, California Wednesday evening for a heartfelt candlelight tribute honoring a family of five tragically lost in a devastating fire on Sunday night. Community members brought candles, balloons, and cherished photos to the site of the fire, creating a poignant memorial for the young victims—18-month-old William, 2-year-old Buckley, 3-year-old Charlie, and 5-year-old Ruby.
“I haven’t stopped crying since I found out,” said Helen Sucrese, a close family friend who cared for the children. “Every morning, Monday through Friday, I would get up with the kids… I would get kisses and hugs.” Sucrese recalls the joy Ruby brought as she excitedly ran to her each morning, asking for help to get dressed, and Buckley’s proud grins as he learned to walk. William, the youngest, was described as a pure joy, creating an emotional impact felt throughout the community.
As the candles flickered in the evening breeze, mourners shared stories and memories, demonstrating the profound loss felt by all. “It was just some of the best memories of my life,” Sucrese reflected, holding onto the moments shared with the children who brought so much happiness into her life.
The Porterville Fire Department reports that the investigation into the cause of the fire could take weeks, leaving the community in a state of mourning and uncertainty. Funeral services for the family have not yet been scheduled, but friends are encouraging donations to the Porterville Funeral Home and Cremation Center to support the family during this tragic time.
The community is coming together, with many expressing their sorrow and support for the grieving family. As they await further updates on the investigation and funeral arrangements, the focus remains on honoring the lives of these precious children and the lasting impact they had on those around them.
