David “Dave” Platt Passes Away at 70 After Short Illness

BREAKING: David “Dave” Platt, a beloved community member and Certified Safety Professional, has passed away at the age of 70 after a brief illness. He left this world peacefully on September 30, 2025, leaving a legacy of safety advocacy and cherished memories.

Dave was born on June 14, 1955, known as “Flag Day,” in Whittier, CA. He spent his early years immersed in local activities, from Scouting to Little League Baseball, and enjoyed camping trips with family. His commitment to community and family was evident throughout his life.

Graduating from Calhi School in 1973, Dave pursued further education, ultimately earning a degree in Anthropology from Sonoma State University in 1978. Shortly after, he married Jan Vogee and transitioned into a successful career focused on workplace safety, earning the nickname “The Safety Guy.”

In 2019, Dave moved to Sequim, WA, where he spent his final years enjoying photography, gardening, and music, alongside his passion for cooking and fishing. His vibrant spirit was reflected in the many concerts he attended throughout his life.

Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt (married 2006), his daughter Carolanne Baker, and numerous family members, including siblings and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt.

In remembrance of his life, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his commitment to community welfare and safety.

This is a significant loss felt across the communities he touched. As friends and family gather to honor his memory, the impact of Dave’s life and work continues to resonate.
