Falcons Celebrate MASCAC Championship with Rings Ceremony

UPDATE: The Fitchburg State Falcons have officially celebrated their MASCAC championship victory with a special ring ceremony held on October 14, 2023. The event took place in Hammond Hall’s Main Lounge, marking a triumphant conclusion to their memorable 2024-25 season.

This ceremony is not just a celebration; it symbolizes the hard work and dedication that propelled the Falcons through a challenging season. Fitchburg State President Donna Hodge addressed the team, stating, “It’s your tireless commitment to excellence that has brought such tremendous pride and energy to this campus.” She emphasized that the championship is a shared achievement, extending beyond the players to families, coaches, and support staff.

The Falcons’ path to glory included a dramatic victory over Worcester State in the quarterfinals and a gripping triple-overtime win against Salem State in the semifinals. They clinched the title on home ice, defeating the No. 8 MCLA, effectively ending their Cinderella story.

Head coach Dean Fuller reflected on the season’s ups and downs, saying, “It was a rollercoaster.” He praised the character and resilience of his players, stating, “I was very proud of this team. Winning’s not easy.” Every member of the championship team, including coaches and trainers, received their rings during the ceremony, celebrating their collective journey.

Captain Michael Macchioni, who supported his teammates despite being sidelined by injury, expressed his joy: “It’s honestly so surreal to be getting these rings and feeling this love again. I’m proud of these guys. Last year, they finished the job.” Macchioni’s commitment to the team remained strong, as he played a crucial support role throughout the season.

As the Falcons donned their championship rings, they prepared for their next challenge—an immediate matchup against Babson later that day. The team is eager to build on their championship momentum as they continue their new season.

In a moment that will remain etched in memory, Christian Halbig, graduate student and captain, recalled scoring the pivotal goal during the semifinals against Salem State. “Honestly, it was surreal. As soon as I saw it hit the net, I was like ‘no way.’ Even to this day, it’s hard to believe I scored that,” he said. This goal not only propelled the Falcons to victory but also embodies the spirit of perseverance and teamwork.

The excitement around the Falcons is palpable as they embark on their new season, aiming to replicate their recent success and inspire their community. Stay tuned for more updates as they face Babson today and continue their quest for greatness in collegiate hockey.
