URGENT UPDATE: A horrifying crash in Ybor City, Florida has left four dead and eleven injured after a speeding car plowed through a crowd early Saturday morning. The incident, which occurred around 12:40 a.m., is sending shockwaves through the community as police confirm the driver is facing multiple felony charges.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the chaos began when police air units spotted two vehicles racing westbound on Hillsborough Avenue toward Interstate 275. One vehicle broke away, while the other, driven by 22-year-old Silas Sampson, fled south on I-275. After an unsuccessful traffic stop attempt by the Florida Highway Patrol, the pursuit continued into Ybor City.
The speeding vehicle barreled down 7th Avenue and crashed near Bradley’s bar, striking over a dozen people gathered outside. Tragically, three victims died at the scene, and a fourth succumbed to injuries at the hospital. As of 5:30 a.m., one other person remains in critical condition, while eight others are hospitalized in stable condition. Two individuals with minor injuries declined treatment.
Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that all victims were adults over the age of 20. Sampson has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated fleeing with serious bodily injury. Records indicate he was previously cited for speeding, driving at 99 mph in a 70 mph zone just weeks before the tragedy.
