BREAKING: Harold (Hal) Warren, a respected community figure and founder of the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp, has passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on November 29, 2025, at Nathan Littauer Hospital. This news comes as a profound loss for his family and the communities he served throughout his life.
Born on July 9, 1938, in Camden, NJ, Warren was a dedicated family man and community leader. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1957 and served in the Army National Guard for eight years, showcasing his commitment to service early in life.
Warren had a distinguished career, working as a Computer Supervisor at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ, and later as a Manager at GTE Data Services in Johnstown, NY. His most notable role was as a City of Johnstown Fire Fighter, where he dedicated 18 years to protecting his community.
In 1971, he founded JAVAC, which became a cornerstone of emergency services in the area. His passion for music and theater led him to be an active member of the Colonial Little Theater and The Galway Players, where he touched the lives of many through performance and mentorship.
Warren is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dawn Warren, and their children Leslie (Rick) Garber, Heather (Jack) Hladik, and Lindsay Warren. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Jon (Mariah) Owens and Mike (ToniAnn) Garber, and great-grandchildren, such as Deagan Owens and Carson Garber.
The family expressed their gratitude to the compassionate staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home and the SCU at Nathan Littauer Hospital for their outstanding care during his final days.
In line with his family’s request, there will be no formal services. A Celebration of Life is being planned for Spring 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brennan Humane Society or the Fulton County Regional SPCA, honoring Warren’s enduring spirit of service and love for animals.
