Holiday Train Show Unveils Stunning Mini Brooklyn Bridge at NYBG

UPDATE: The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) has just unveiled its highly anticipated Holiday Train Show, featuring a breathtaking miniature replica of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. This year’s exhibition, which runs through January 11, 2024, combines creativity and craftsmanship to delight visitors with a stunning display of over 30 G-scale model trains and nearly 200 plant-based replicas of famous landmarks.

During a guided tour, Kenia Pittman, director of exhibition design operations at NYBG, emphasized the significance of the Brooklyn Bridge model, stating, “The Brooklyn Bridge is the largest bridge in the Holiday Train Show.” Built from natural materials like oak, elm, and willow twigs, this intricate piece captures the essence of the real bridge, which originally opened on May 24, 1884.

The Holiday Train Show is now in its 34th year, and it continues to attract crowds eager for a magical experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in a cityscape crafted from natural elements, including leaves, seeds, and pinecones. “They use natural materials gathered from nearby woods to create these unique and beautiful pieces,” Pittman explained.

This season, the exhibition includes new additions inspired by New York City landmarks. “Each season, we create new displays inspired by a curated mix of New York City buildings, boroughs, and landmarks,” said Pittman. Highlights this year include the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Delacorte Theater, showcasing the garden’s commitment to evolving its collection.

The immersive experience is designed to engage visitors of all ages. The Garden is also hosting a sensory-friendly morning on January 3 from 9 to 11 a.m., featuring cookies and chocolates, along with the “Evergreen Express” event for children, which runs through January 11.

Tickets for the Holiday Train Show start at $25 and can be purchased at nybg.org. The excitement doesn’t end with the trains; many of the models light up at night, providing a magical view of New York City’s most beloved structures.

As families and friends gather to explore this enchanting miniature world, Pittman encourages creativity, suggesting, “Head out to your local trails or city parks and gather a few natural materials. There’s no wrong way to create your own take on a favorite New York City landmark.”

This year’s Holiday Train Show at NYBG is a must-see event that captures the spirit of New York City, making it an unforgettable experience for all who attend. Share this exciting news and plan your visit today!
